PR&P: Bias Remix

Week one of Project Run and Play season five is here!

 This week's challenge was to remix No Big Dill's Very Biased Skirt.

I decided to make a little button-up top with flutter sleeves paired with Box Pleat Shorts (tutorial here).

 I drafted the pattern for the top, and made the base from white muslin. Then I covered the front of the shirt with strips of two different fabrics cut on the bias. The bias strips are from white lining fabric and the other is a sheer sparkly fabric.
 The shorts are made from a blue linen blend with a fabric covered button (my favorite detail!)

There's a cute little pocket in the back from the same fabric as the button (Chevron in Aqua- Riley Blake Fabric)

I'll admit, I was a little stumped on this one when I first heard the season's themes. But I am really pleased with how it turned out.

Chevron Quilt: Finished!

The chevron quilt is done! I am in shock that I actually finished a quilt! My first quilt!

 To finish the quilt, I cut strips and strips of the red polka dot fabric.

 Then sewed them together into one long strip.

and pinned them along the edge of the quilt, and hand sewed the entire thing.

I actually LOVED hand sewing the binding. The process takes a lot longer than if I had run it through my sewing machine, but I really liked how it looked hand stitched, and I enjoyed watching movies while I stitched my binding. It's very satisfying. I might hand stitch an entire quilt next time.

 and there it is!

The quilt turned out fantastic, and I am very proud of it. The best part was tonight as I put Christine to bed in her crib I was folding up the quilt getting ready to put it away and Christine asked to sleep with "new quilt". Her sweet little request made me so happy. 

More Box Pleat Shorts

I was so excited this morning to see in my inbox two pairs of Box Pleat Shorts!

These adorable shorts were made by Andrea (who has a fantastic flickr stream full of inspiration). I just LOVE the pockets she added to the back, and her fabric choice is perfect!
